porphyre @ 04:37 pm: There are no better scoundrels.
"A city can't be too small. Size guarantees anonymity—if you make an embarrassing mistake in a large city, and it's not on the cover of the Post, you can probably try again. The generous attitude towards failure that big cities afford is invaluable—it's how things get created. In a small town everyone knows about your failures, so you are more careful about what you might attempt." - David Byrne

What surprised me most about the Tiger Lillies show is how gorgeous it was. I was expecting raucous suicide songs, but instead found their show delightful fun, but also rather haunting, as if they were playing the full weight of their twenty years together with every note. The Moore Theater is awfully pretty, which helped, but it really was something in their timbre, a sweetness that ached, sugar in a tooth during the best french kiss you'll ever remember on the birthday you decide you finally feel old. It was blood shivering. Their best trick was to have the audience laugh to the worst, most terrible things, then to mock the laughter with more of the same. I've never heard such dark subject matter vivisected with so much whimsical mirth. It shone a light upon the heart, even as they sang like a house on fire, all bizarre theatrics and kicking kittens down stairs, with voices like elegant flashing sirens.

The after party wasn't half bad either, a mad robot-themed dance review at the Can Can underground cabaret bar, (delicious food, crazy entertainment), involving two astonishingly limber girls and some not too terrible young men gyrating two feet in front of our front row table, then a set by The Bad Things, a band I crashed with once in a Bellingham squat with the Dandelion Junk Queens. (Because the world really can be that small sometimes). Most memorable, after Rainbow, the intense spinning-from-a-chandelier awe inspiring blond girl who looked uncannily like Sara, was the bachelorette unicorn lap-dance. Sounds unlikely, I know, but it was quite the experience. He whinnied, he pawed, he wore embarrassing sunglasses that matched his skintight bodysuit. It was beyond pretty great. It was, in fact, fantastic.

The next day, Saturday, was Seacompression, a Seattle burner party held in a repurposed military hanger. Burner parties are much the same wherever you go, a fun fur collision of invention, wacky art, fire sculpture, dance, music, costumes, and people hanging from the ceiling, sometimes with no clothes on. It was a good time, with good people. We drove over with Robin and Rafael, to find Frank and Claire were there, and Adam and Anna, as well as Craig, Richard, Jordan, and Stephanie, though with the crowd, it was rare to run into people more than twice. Most of everyone we found wandering around, except for Jordan, who was hanging out in the white geodesic dome full of pillows, watching as people were locked into a spinning globe machine by crystal tipped metal arms.

To give you an idea of what it was like, around front was a hacked bus with a fire sculpture on the roof, a hot-rod with a BBQ instead of a trunk, the giant flaming metal hand Tobasco and his crew made, and a pumpkin death pachinko machine. Inside, to the right of the entrance, was a photo booth and a small movie theater (complete with Marquee), and the white chill-out dome. To the left, some couches, the Wheel Of Judgment, a hammock garden, and the hall that led to the main dancefloor, a large room with a raised area in the middle made of cages. Past those, in the main space, were two bouncy ropes hanging from the ceiling, various girls dangling from the ends, tied in by experts, and a performance space behind another bus, where fire dancers were spinning fire and live music played. Mostly we wandered, content to mingle in the madness, though we danced to the EQLateral String Trio and submit ourselves to the Wheel of Judgment. (Tony got a ticket for being "too fury". We think they meant "too furry".) We didn't stay to the end, exhaustion and a desire to be curled up naked won over, but it was a lovely party.

To top it off, we bought a strand of electric pussy-willows yesterday. Plugged in, they look like the future colliding with magic.

There are no easy words for how blessed I feel to have such lovely adventures in my life. Also, I had the Tiger Lillies sign my decolletage. Pictures soon.

unluckymonkey @ 12:45 pm: grrr so I've been diagnosed
with Meneire's disease
it's not so great
but not really as bad as its name
the first meds the doc recommended
have not worked in the least
the next drug to try
will preclude me from breastfeeding any further
I don't yet know how I feel about this
I'm not way into breastfeeding
since I mde it to 1yr and all
but the beebees doc did suggest I do it
through the winter
due to all the upcoming bad flu issues
and I'd like to do that
can I deal with this
for the next 5mo
without solving the puzzle?
things to think about
I've not yet been to an ENT guy
so that might be the next step
if I'd like to avoid this drug

in other news
cheerier news
I ordered 2 more books today
I'm pretty excited about them
vegetarian indian cook book
and how to draft patterns for clothes
from measurements
I think I've got the basics down already
but this book got grrreat reviews
and I'd like to really know how to do it right
I'd like to clear out my inventory
of clothes and slowly work toward
more hand made custom fitted
so if I gain or lose weight I'll know it
and everything will fit so nice!

I've also decided 2 things
since I'm going to have to deal
with this Meniere's thing
I'm going to have to buckle down
with naps and exercise
to cut down on my potential stress
for naps my plan is to feed the boys
lunch when they start fussing
around 11-12ish
finish it off with 3oz bottles of warm milk
and lay them down
if they decide to cry it out so be it
and in the morning before 11
I plan to exercise for at least 20min
by dancing and jumping around
in the living room
I don't really have a better choice
for exercise right now
in line with exercise goals
I have also decided
that if I can get myself down to 133
and stay within 2lbs of that for a month
I will buy myself some vibram 5finger shoes
in the lavender
hot!
I've got a tattoo client
who's checking them out right now
and I won't buy unless he's convinced
that they rock
but currently that's my vote
for next shoe purchase

in the world of toys
I failed miserably
to design a 4 legged, 3 armed, 2 headed
conjoined twin for my circus
damn
well back to the more simple approach
which I think really gives me more freedom
as I go

off to forrage for lunch!

wanderingbastet, posting in faeriefashion @ 08:57 am: FaerieCon Recap!
FaerieCon was definitely a blast this weekend! The only downer for me was the huge breaks between the second and third bands each night - I would very much have liked to see both bands' full sets, but ended up going to bed about halfway through each. Apparently, I got old when I wasn't looking! Hrmph!

But in any case, the eye candy wandering around was absolutely wonderful. I took about a jillion pictures. :-) If anyone's interested in my own outfit (and my friend Vicky's), pics and details are behind the cut! )

unluckymonkey @ 10:15 am: I like patternmaking in illustrator
I can lay out everything in my head
today while taking the dog out
I looked like a drunk swaying ere and there
trying to walk around the cars
last night I had a glass of wine
and was so off balance
I looked like I'd been doing tequilla shots
all night
dreadful
going to eat some indian food
and run errnads without the monkeys
for 2hrs today
that will be nice
I need some time with the hub
uninterrupted
I should be cutting fabric
and tracing patterns
at this very moment
but I've been rather sluggish
on this pattern for some reason
maybe I'm afraid it won't work
for good reasons
the bottom piece just doesn't feel right
but I don't know how to compute
the circumference on an oval
maybe I'll go look that up.

eleganza_bella, posting in faeriefashion @ 10:26 pm:

This is my first time having a clearance sale for my jewellery and I am really hoping it goes well! The reasons behind my decision of having one are as follows:

I. Someone commissioned a set of 8 pieces from me, with everything done to her specifications, and ended up not paying. So I have left with 8 pieces and with no one who wants them.

II. I understand the recession has been terrible for some, and so I still want to give them the opportunity of lowered prices without forgoing quality.

III. I want to sell off the older pieces so that they can make way for the newer ones that will be coming up soon for Christmas. There is only so much space on my shelf and on my website. :)

The prices have been considerably lowered, so if you see anything you like, please do help me out and take it off my shelf! ♥

piximush @ 08:31 pm: I wrote this last week and never finished it.
I don't even like it. But I've had a few beers and have noticed I haven't been writing here.
So what the hell, I guess.

Shocking him because he is riding backwards.

I haven't been reading much again. Scratch that, no, I have been reading, but words without soul.
Systematic texts informing me of what there is to know. There is a right way to go about these things, I swear there must be,
it's just that I haven't the tools. Not yet. Not yet/Wait/Never. And what is it that I am trying to say?

October pulled away from me. Too much motion, though not enough action from these limbs.
There's so much I want, but no words for it.
I smell wood burning two houses over, and the crispness in the air, this autumn, it chills it and instills in me a calm.
Can I ask for burning wood? Or crisp air? What of the calm? I can't explain this to you, so how could I ask for it.

The motion of your fingers against skin, or the rhythm of hips. I can't map out the movements for you, but I can hope a part of me is clear enough to read.

There is still a desperation or a sense of emptiness I can't control or explain. And I most certainly can't fix, because I couldn't tell you what it is that I need.
I should have done X differently. Well, even if I had, there would be something else to dwell on. Another uncertain movement.

*

The thing is (this is tonight, not last week) that we are never clear enough to read.
Raw emotion, perhaps, but the reasoning behind it? It's never quite so easy.
I have a world of insecurity to try to keep under wraps these days.
Every day I see as a challenge. I go about writing and then I go about tending to this person I have lived with for some twenty four years now, and I try to make her fit.
And it's a daunting process, and scary, and life-altering, but it's worth it.

It's just that sometimes I get scared I'm not making the right movements toward all of this.

It's the not knowing -- that's the bitch. All I have is my own perspective to work with.
To operate from.
And I just have to keep hoping that eventually -- eventually, I will get this right.
